In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Tanner Barger Scholarship Fund and left at the funeral home.
Tanner David Barger, age 15, of El Dorado Springs, passed away on February 7, 2012. Tanner was born in Nevada, Missouri, on March, 22, 1996 to David and Tracy (Toliver) Barger.
Preceding Tanner in death were an infant brother, Brady Shay; maternal great-grandparents Glen and Elaine (Vickers) Sherman; maternal great-grandfather, David Elton Toliver; paternal great-grandparents, Floyd and Martha Capps; and paternal great-grandparents Ina and Homer Barger.
Survivors include his parents, David and Tracy; his brother Trey; maternal grandmother Deena and Keith Selby; grandfather Roger Scoggins; maternal grandfather James (Jim) Toliver; paternal grandparents John and Sharon Barger; maternal great-grandmother Virginia Toliver; aunts, uncles and cousins Jamie, Carly and Jessi Toliver, Haley and Taylor Manes; Jenny, James, Abegail, Hunter, and Maddison Cheek; Joe and Veda Barger, Jannah, Buddy, Anna and Nick Farrington, Jeremy and Kate Barger, Ryan Cloyd, Bryan and Bethany Cloyd; and Mike, Shelly, Shelby, Sydney and Myka Barger. He is also survived by many friends and his classmates.
Tanner was currently a freshman at El Dorado Springs High School. He was the freshmen class vice-president and he loved being a member of the Student Council. As a Bulldog football player, Tanner was a part of the 2011 team that earned a district championship. Tanner would have begun his high school baseball career in the spring. Tanner enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing his X-Box, and spending time with his family and his friends. According to his brother Trey, Tanner was hard to describe in words but could be best described as a “goof”. If Tanner wasn’t following in the footsteps of his Dad or his brother, he was making his own way, especially with his sense of fashion and his tan socks. Tanner didn’t care what he looked like as long as his big brother approved. Tanner wasn’t just Trey’s little brother -- he was everyone’s little brother. Tanner stuck up for his friends in all situations. He teased the girls but they loved him anyway… as a friend. Trey believes his brother’s relationship theme song should have been “Trouble With Girls” by Scotty McCreery. But no matter whom he was with or where he was, Tanner lit up the room with laughter.
Funeral services for Tanner David Barger were held on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the El Dorado Springs High School Gymnasium with Brother Mike Owens officiating. Favorite musical selections of Tanner and his family were played during the service. Interment followed in the Hazel Dell Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
