Robert Lafayette Gibbs, age 65, of El Dorado Springs, MO, passed away at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO, on Tuesday, July 24, 2012. Robert was born June 26, 1947, in Lockwood, MO, the son of Susan Mary (Carpenter) Gibbs and Glen Robert Gibbs.
Robert married his beautiful wife Patricia Lea Rolando on December 27, 1968. To this union three children were born: Brian Lee Gibbs, Lofty Glen Gibbs, and Susan Marie (Gibbs) Wood. Robert enjoyed raising flowers, planting his garden, puzzle games, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Robert served in the U.S. Army from July 12, 1966 to June 22, 1968, where he was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, Ft. Hood, and then traveled overseas and served his time in Germany. After returning to the states he worked and retired from the International Shoe Factory. Later he did odd jobs as well as babysitting grandchildren. He would always help anyone in need and then some.
Preceding him in death were: his parents Glen Robert and Susan Mary Gibbs; his sister Janice Scott; a brother Kelly Glen Gibbs; a niece Tracy Scott; and a nephew Daniel Reeder.
Survivors include: his wife Patricia Gibbs of the home; three children: Brian Gibbs, Lofty Gibbs, and Susan Wood, all of El Dorado Springs; four grandchildren: Austin Martinez of Nevada, MO; Brittany and Megan Wood and Spencer Gibbs, all of El Dorado Springs; two great-grandchildren: Quade Wood and Aspen Tittle; two brothers: Wayne Gibbs and wife Debbie; and Keith Gibbs; four sisters: Joyce Hughes and husband Lowell; Kathy Gibbs and Mike Hoffman; Karen Spencer and husband Robert; and Kris Leonard and husband Greg; a brother-in-law Scotty Scott; aunt Margaret Smith; uncle Donnie Gibbs; and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 28, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home with Rev. James Coleman officiating. Interment followed in Love Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were: Robert Wayne Gibbs, Kendall Gibbs, Kevin Scott, Jason Spencer, D.J. Reeder, and Daniel Band. Honorary pallbearers were: Kasey Bland, Kyler Leonard, Trenton Leonard, and Marion Foster.
