Obituary
Howard Hutchins, age 77 of Rockville, MO, passed away at Cedar County Memorial Hospital on Tuesday morning, February 12, 2013. He was born in Raytown, MO, on November 2, 1935, the son of Harley and Ruth (Rodgers) Hutchins. The youngest of eight children, Howard grew up in Kansas City, MO. After a wild and turbulent youth, he matured during his years as a member of the Kansas City Missouri Fire Department. While working there he received a commendation for meritorial service. In 1985, he retired as a Captain in the department for which he was very proud. He always said he loved his job because he could drive as fast as he wanted and never get a speeding ticket.

After his retirement, he began a second life in Taberville, MO. He kept busy with children and grandchildren as he became known as the local gardener and weed (and sometimes grass) killer. His efforts were commemorated with a “Howard Hutchins Day” celebration including full costume. His tailor made neon outfit is still talked about at the Taberville Park.

His hobbies included painting, hunting and visiting with friends.

The last love of his life reconnected him with his relationship to God. And, for this we are grateful.

Howard was a man well loved, as his three marriages affirm. As a result his is survived by two daughters from his first marriage: Lois Hutchins and Joyce Kalousek; became a second father to Lisa Jacobs and Teddi Handley when he married Betty Dell; and was thought of as an honorary father by Starr Marshall, Misty Preston, and Deonne Marshall upon the marriage to their mother Bernice Strickland who also survives. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Howard Hutchins were held on Sunday, February 17, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home with Pastor Sam Masten officiating. Burial followed in Taberville Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are: Steve Koshko, Travis Oehring, Kevin Jacobs, G.C. White, Chad Shanker, and Mike Handley. Honorary pallbearers are: Fred Oehring, Bob Daly, Murle Barbour, John Tosatto, and Jr. Oehring.
