Barbara Ann Barger, age 85, of Bolivar, MO, formerly of El Dorado Springs, MO, passed away October 23, 2017, at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, MO. Barbara was born November 27, 1931, in Nokomis, Illinois, to Fred and Thelma Curtis, the fourth of six siblings. She lived in several states before her family moved to Missouri when she was nine.
Barbara accepted Jesus at the age of thirteen at a revival being held at the old Blue Ridge school house. Although she felt she wasn’t always faithful to the Lord, she always asked for forgiveness and knew Heaven was her home.
In 1950, Barbara was united in marriage to Billy D. Howerton and to this union two children were born, Linda and David. Bill departed this life in 1967 after a lengthy illness.
In 1971, Barbara met Albert L. Barger and on June 30, 1973, they were married and Barbara became the mother of Kim, Randy and Karen. Barbara worked 28 years at the nursing home, most of them as supervisor over the dietary department.
Barbara loved going fishing with Albert and taking rides in the truck. Albert preceded Barbara in death in August 2007, after 34 years of marriage. Also preceding her in death were many other family members and friends.
In 2009, Barbara moved to Bolivar to be nearer David and Melody. They have helped care for her since then.
Survivors include her children: David Howerton and wife Melody, Linda Williams, Kim Nimmo, and Karen Barger; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A graveside service for Barbara Barger will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. at Love Cemetery with Bro. Everett Smith officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
