James C Phinney, age 87, of rural El Dorado Springs, Missouri, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, March 7, 2018. James was born on December 26, 1930, in Vista, Missouri, the son of Thomas D. Phinney and Etalka I. (Payton) Phinney.
James grew up in the El Dorado Springs area, where he met and married Naomi Jeanne Rozelle on February 18, 1949. Two children were born to this union, a daughter, Diana and a son, James (Jim). James and Jeanne moved to Des Moines, Iowa, and raised their two children there. He worked for 30 years at Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company.
James was a member of Galilee Baptist Church in Des Moines, Iowa.
After James retired, they built a house and moved home to rural El Dorado Springs, Missouri. James and Jeanne were married for 69 years.
James loved hunting, fishing, gardening, good country and gospel music, and spending time with his family. You would often find James relaxing in the swing on their front porch.
Preceding James in death were his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife Jeanne, of El Dorado Springs, MO; one daughter, Diana (Phinney) Dorow and husband Rick of Yellville, AR; one son, James (Jim) Phinney and wife Laurie of Eldon, MO; one grandson, Jacob Phinney and wife, Megan of Eldon, MO; one sister; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service for James Phinney was held on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Love Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
