Susie Irene (Sikes) Marshall of Jerico Springs, Missouri was born October 31, 1915, at home near Jerico Springs, Missouri. She passed away at Freeman Hospital, Joplin, Missouri, on August 13, 2011, at the age of 95 years, 9 months, 13 days.
She married John Marion Peyton Marshall on April 4, 1933, in El Dorado Springs, Missouri. To this union two daughters were born: Marilyn Sue (Marshall) Cole of Lamar, Missouri, and Netta Belle (Marshall) Cory of Lockwood, Missouri.
Susie was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents Charles Elmer Sikes and Susie Carlton (Conn) Sikes, a stepmother, Bessie Geneva (Hall) Sikes and a step-sister Mary Marguerite (Sikes) Elliot and a son in law, James Ray Cole.
She is survived by a step-brother, Calvin Dale Sikes; two daughters: Marilyn Sue Cole and Netta Belle Cory and husband Robert; three grandchildren: James B. Marion Cole, Susiette Leilani (Cory) Hansen, and Merle Duayne Hanamua Cory and wife Susan; four great-grandchildren: Jimi Chester Cole, Jorgia Kelly Cory, Luke Isaac Cory and Earl Marshall Leo Anson Cory; and two great-great-grandchildren: Kayli Sue Cole and Braden Chester Cole. Also surviving are four step-grandchildren: Michelle Cheri Cory, Frances Marian (Cory) Smith and husband Mark, Lewis Daniel Cory and wife Rhonda, and Paul Mark Lupton and wife Donna; seven step-great-grandchildren: Phillip Daniel Smith, Devin Mark Smith, Cassandra Cae Cory, Calieb James Cory, Devon Scott Lupton, Dylan Paul Lupton and Addison Lisa Lupton; and two step-great-great-grandchildren: Shelby Lynn Forst, and Layla Page Forst. She is also survived by numerous other relatives.
Susie was saved in 1953 at a revival and shortly thereafter was baptised at Ball Ford, Cedar Creek, southeast of Jerico Springs, Missouri, by Rev. Frank Nickels. She graduated from Jerico Springs High School with honors where she was an avid basketball player. She received a full scholarship to Missouri State Teachers College in Springfield, Missouri. She graduated with a Teachers Certificate, teaching at several one room schools, Stockton Missouri Elementary School, and El Dorado Springs Missouri Elementary School. She taught for 35 years. She worked side by side with John on the 267 acre farm near Jerico Springs. She belonged to Jerico Springs Community Club and a quilting club along with numerous other activities involving teaching and farming. They were not wealthy but, spread the fruits of their farm with relatives and the needy. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, and friend. As the family matriarch she will be sorely missed. She is toiling in the fields of her Lord and Savior now.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, August 20, 2001, at 2:00 p.m. at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home, Highway 54 east, El Dorado Springs, Missouri, 64744, with a visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Steve Clark of 1st Baptist Church of Lockwood, Missouri will officiate. Interment will follow in Greenfield Cemetery, south of Jerico Springs, Missouri under direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Jimi Chester Cole, Merle Duayne Hanamua Cory, Kelley Duncan, Aaron Rideman, and Jamie Loveall. Honorary Pallbears are Braden Chester Cole, Luke Isaac Cory, and Earl Marshall Leo Anson Cory.
